Friday. 9/17/2010- Alexander Day!

We would like to thank you for taking time to answer our questions, we liked hearing from you. Although you answered our questions, we have managed to come up with a few more, if you wouldn't mind. We hear part of your Podcast and were wondering why you didn't like loud music or cars. Also, on the topic of cars, what kind of cars do you have aroind there? Are there any American or Exotic cars like Porches or anything like that. Also, what kind of music do you listen to and what kind do they have there?

  1. I'm always happy for more questions, it's great that you're interested! In Thai culture, there isn't the same sense of quiet time at night. Often parties will blast loud music until 4am or so. By this time, the public loudspeakers with morning radio often begin. I love music, but what I was referring to in my podcast is how there are many advertising trucks that drive around shouting sales. My house is very open, most of the time I keep the front and back doors open. Despite living on a small side-street, cars still fly by making lots of noise. I'm just happy that's usually during the day! Cars here aren't all that different from home. One interesting fact is that Thailand has the most pickup trucks per capita in the world! There are a few cars, but not as many. Most of the brands I see are Honda, Toyota, Chevy, and Ford. Despite all these, most people ride mopeds and motorcycles to get around. They are much cheaper and use less gas. They are very dangerous though, many people die here on them. The most people I've ever seen on one moped was 6 people! There are some exotic cars here, but almost all in Phuket and Bangkok where you can buy them. Almost all brands are available, but even in those cities, most people drive pickups or mopeds. Thai music is very different. They have mainly pop, but also reggae and traditional Thai music. I encourage you to look them up and let me know if you like it. At home I mostly listen to my non-Thai music collection. I hope that answered your questions and piqued your interests to learn more!
